Germany
July 28, 2020
Computomics is happy to announce that, starting July 2020, we are a member of the German Aerospace Center Network Space2Agriculture.
The space management of the German Aerospace Center (DLR - Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt) launched the INNOspace® initiative in 2013 to make space know-how available to other sectors of the economy. It is part of the "National Program for Space and Innovation" of Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, part of the Federal Government's New High-Tech Strategy.
The INNOspace network Space2Agriculture represents a new module of the successful INNOspace® initiative and opens a communication platform between space and agriculture. It fosters cross-sector dialogue and technology transfer between space and other industrial sectors.
The goal of the network is to establish cross-industry networking, and to initiate and consolidate synergies. New commercialization potentials should be identified, technology cooperation intended and joint funding projects initiated. The exchange with other industries makes it easier to see new things and enables product and process innovations through an actively operated technology transfer.
The membership in Space2Agriculture will help us in our strategic decision to integrate earth observation (EO) data into our machine learning–based technology ⨉SeedScore®. Plant breeders are using more and more granular data to accelerate plant breeding: phenotyping data, drone images, climate and weather data, soil, and marker data. Integration of all of this — sometimes imprecise — data is best done with machine learning algorithms. Our ⨉SeedScore® technology unites many data sources into a system that is able to precisely predict plant traits.
