Incotec's parent company, Croda International Plc, who use smart science to create, make and sell speciality chemicals that improve lives, have today committed to becoming Climate, Land and People positive by 2030.
Croda’s stretching new sustainability targets will enable them to continue their journey to becoming the most sustainable supplier of innovative ingredients. This new Commitment now underpins their business strategy, ensuring that their smart science and technology will help tackle some of the biggest challenges the world is facing through alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Working with the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, they identified the SDGs where they will make the biggest positive impact through both the benefits in use of their products and their sustainable operations. This led to their 2030 Commitment to become Climate, Land and People Positive.
Climate Positive will see Croda enable more carbon to be saved than they emit. With a focus on helping customers and consumers avoid carbon emissions through the benefits in use of products, the Company will also increase their industry leading bio-based raw material usage, whilst reducing their operational carbon footprint to net zero by 2050. All this will see them target a ‘carbon cover’ ratio of 4:1, meaning that for each kilogram of carbon emitted through Croda’s operations and supply chain, at least four kilograms will be saved by customers and consumers through the use of their products.
Land Positive sees the Company enabling more land to be saved than is used to grow their bio-based raw materials. Through their innovative crop science, they will help their agricultural customers to mitigate the impact of climate change and land degradation. This will increase the availability of land suitable for growing crops and help farmers to increase yields and crop resilience.
People Positive sees the Company focus on the contribution they can make to SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality), focusing on improving lives by using their smart science to promote health and wellbeing worldwide, as well as gender equality across their organisation. As part of this, through their Personal Care sector, they will protect 60 million lives annually from potentially developing skin cancer from harmful UV rays, as well as contributing to the successful development and commercialisation of 25% of World Health Organisation listed pipeline vaccines through their Health Care sector.
Stuart Arnott, President Sustainability, Croda said: “It is exciting to be able to share our 2030 Commitment to become Climate, Land and People Positive. Developing this over the last year has helped us see that, although we have always had a strong focus on sustainability, with our new Purpose of Smart Science to Improve Lives™, this has become even further embedded in our culture and business. We believe that, through this Commitment and our alignment to the SDGs, we can have a net positive impact on the environment and society.”
