With planting currently underway in some parts of Queensland, and growers in other regions busy preparing paddocks and machinery, the 2019-20 season is just around the corner.
If you’re having trouble deciding which variety to select, make sure you check out CSD’s variety performance comparison tool where you can investigate how different varieties have performed in CSD’s trial program for your area and in other valleys.
In order to get the best possible establishment, growers are reminded that the planting operation – including soil temperature – needs to be optimal. Check that soil temperatures are above 14°C at 8am (AEST), and that the forecast temperatures for the week following planting are on a rising plane to get the ‘green light’ for planting.
CSD has a number of weather stations with soil temperature sensors placed across many regions of the cotton industry, which form the FastStart™ Soil Temperature Network. These sensors are a real-time measure of the soil temperature at 10cm and can be used as a guide to whether conditions are suitable for planting cotton.
Other useful tools on our website include our CSD planting rate calculator, replant calculator and seeds per kilo information.
