GRDC: green bridge control time
Australia
February 27, 2013
The Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) is once again calling on grain growers to set aside St Patrick’s Day on March 17 to assess and begin control of the green bridge of volunteer cereals.
The green bridge of plants carrying rust spores into the winter crop season is a major contributor to rust incursions, according to Rohan Rainbow, GRDC senior manager plant health.
Dr Rainbow says the best preventative strategies for managing the rust threat are to select rust-resistant varieties, treat seed and control the green bridge of volunteers and weeds.
