Varietal susceptibility to yellow rust

United Kingdom
November 27, 2012

Source: HGCA newsletter

The HGCA yellow rust publication (Topic sheet 119) now includes an updated diversification matrix which divides winter wheat varieties into Diversification Groups (DG) according to their susceptibility to different races of yellow rust.

Several varieties are now classed as more susceptible and have moved from the high resistance DG1 to the less resistant DG2, while a number of new varieties have been added to DG1. Two varieties, Oakley and Torch, are now in the lowest resistance DG0. Both are susceptible to yellow rust and are likely to spread yellow rust to all other varieties except those in DG1.
