Pest management support

Australia
July 4, 2012

Entomologists with support from the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) are encouraging grain growers to explore integrated pest management (IPM) options and spray insect pests only when necessary this season and beyond. They say this will reduce economic and environmental costs and preserve insecticide efficacy into the future.

To assist growers and their advisers with their IPM strategies, the GRDC has released an Insecticide Resistance Management and Invertebrate Pest Identification Fact Sheet.

The Fact Sheet provides useful information on how to implement effective IPM, which insects to check for and when, problem insects which have confirmed resistance to certain insecticides, as well as links to other resources.

The Fact Sheet will be included in the July-August edition of GRDC’s Ground Cover magazine and is available for viewing and downloading via www.grdc.com.au/GRDC-FS-IPM-SW.

Free copies can also be ordered via GRDC’s Ground Cover Direct, free phone 1800 11 00 44 or email ground-cover-direct@canprint.com.au.
