Inoculate and protect soybean seeds - Providing a strong start with vigorous roots and disease protection

USA
February 2019

Every plant thrives on energy but a plant’s roots are the power source, fueling a strong crop. As one of the newest additions to the BASF Seed Solution portfolio, Vault® IP Plus seed treatment gives seeds vigorous roots for a strong start, along with critical disease protection.

“Vault IP Plus is the only soybean seed treatment to combine an inoculant and (EPA registered biofungicide, containing two active biologicals for improved fungicidal activity and protection for soybean seeds,” said Justin Clark, BASF Technical Marketing Manager.

Two proven biofungicides

The biofungicides in Vault IP Plus seed treatment provide extended disease protection by creating a bio-film barrier on the root surface. The barrier helps to prevent the intrusion of soil-borne diseases, such as Fusarium and Rhizoctonia.

“The bio-film, or exopolysaccharide, is produced by bacteria, and enables bacterial adhesion on the root surface,” said Clark. “It acts as a preventative barrier from external pathogen penetration.”

Fresh rhizobia make the difference

Along with disease protection, Vault IP Plus seed treatment delivers millions of fresh rhizobia to each seed. The living microorganism infects the plant’s root hairs and creates a natural symbiosis in the root tissue. By fixing nitrogen from the atmosphere, visual nodules will form on the roots to be used for synthesizing amino acids and proteins.

“With more vigorous soybean roots at the start of the season, the crop will absorb more nutrients, be healthier and give growers an advantage come harvest,” said Clark.

More room on the seed for profit

On top of providing disease protection and vigorous roots, Vault IP Plus seed treatment has the lowest application rate of any premium inoculant/biofungicide treatment available on the market. The low application rate provides reduced clogging and bridging in seed equipment and room to add on additional seed treatments to enhance profitability.

Vault IP Plus seed treatment has reduced packaging compared to its previous formulation. The application rate not only saves time, but delivers less waste and customers get more treated units per case.
