Australia - Bayer CropScience and industry continue to Grow Smarter Together

Australia
12 November 2012

Bayer CropScience continues to invest in Australia’s agricultural industry by holding Growing Smarter Together (GST) site sessions in Elmore, Narromine and Temora.

The GST sessions showcased a wide range of technologies and products to visiting groups of agronomists, private agronomic consultants, technical staff and major distribution partners including Elders and Landmark.

Greg Toomey, agronomist from Landmark Elmore said, “The Growing Smarter Together sites are a great place to learn a lot of information in the one session. There are many trials and interesting things to see, making it worthwhile for busy agronomists to take the time to go.”

“Seeing how some of Bayer’s new proprietary products are being used and tested, as well as new uses for products already launched is another key benefit of attending the sessions,” Greg added.

Educational sessions were held at the GST sites, offering visitors new insights into growing healthier crops more efficiently, responsibly and profitably.

Bayer CropScience Technical Advisory Manager, Greg Skinner said, “Bayer is committed to research and development, and seeks to allow all parties to learn and experience as much as possible. The guided tours are designed to be of great value to the visitors, there’s plenty of interaction and discussion so the agronomists, staff and distributors can all learn from one another.”

This year’s sessions covered trials with Bayer’s products including Sakura®, EverGol® Prime, Prosaro® and Bayer’s latest hybrid canola technology.

Angus MacLennan, Bayer CropScience Technical Advisor at Narromine said, “We did a trial on Sakura for control of grass weeds at different seed depths, and it provided a very high level of activity on all shallow germinating weeds.”

“We tested EverGol Prime, an innovative seed treatment fungicide, in sites inoculated with rhizoctonia sites to examine its efficacy on this key cereal disease. EverGol Prime was the standout treatment for rhizoctonia suppression,” Angus added.

A barley trial provided insight to Prosaro versus other fungicides in barley for the control of barley leaf scald and leaf rust. Prosaro also proved to give excellent control of blackleg in canola.

Jeremy White, Market Development Agronomist in Bendigo, Victoria, commented on Bayer’s hybrid canola technology and said, “The current limited scale trials in eastern and Western Australia have shown rapid growth and a high, early vigour to out-compete weeds. It’s exciting to share some of these findings at the Growing Smarter Together sessions.”

Bayer CropScience has Growing Smarter Together sites in Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia.

EverGol® Prime and Prosaro® are Registered Trademarks of the Bayer Group.
Sakura® is a Registered Trademark of Kumiai Chemical Industry Co. Ltd.
