Eagle Genomics and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Food: Inspiring future generations in Agri-Food

Cambridge, United Kingdom
December 19. 2022

Eagle Genomics recently collaborated with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Food in the launch of a new video campaign Day in the Life”. This initiative, led by EIT Food’s North-West country cluster, aims to address the rising need for technical skills and innovation in food and agriculture by inspiring younger generations to pursue a career in the agri-food sector. The video interview features the life of Eagle Genomics’ Scientific Marketing Manager and outlines the main responsibilities of the role as well as explains why and how the company positively impacts the wider food system.

This Day in the Life project is part of Eagle Genomics’ continued collaboration with EIT Food as part of the EIT Food RisingFoodStars (RFS) program for scale ups. RFS offered Eagle Genomics access to a unique network of global leaders in academia and industry and, with that, the opportunity to actively contribute to improving the health of people and planet.

The agri-food sector is paving the way in innovating sustainable solutions to tackle some of the world’s biggest environmental and health challenges. By becoming a RFS, Eagle Genomics’ goal was to enable more organizations within agri-food to exploit the company’s unique e[datascientist]™ technology, ultimately helping to lead the way to a more sustainable future. This is part of the company’s mission to enable the digitization of science to accelerate the Bioeconomy.

Eagle Genomics is increasingly focused on supporting its customers' aspirations as they address ‘One Health’ challenges towards more sustainable and impact-oriented innovation and product outcomes. The concept of ‘One Health’ recognises that the health of humans, animals, and the environment are intimately interconnected, and that the application of technologies to solve in one domain can inspire and enable advances in others. Addressing the ‘One Health’ opportunity requires a focus on, and a deep understanding of, microbiome and host-microbiome interactions as the common denominator across these domains.

The technical challenge that Eagle Genomics is solving is to bridge the ‘translation gap,’ so that scientific knowledge from a range of disparate sources and studies across industries can be applied to deliver robust, scientifically underpinned product claims. In the agri-food sector, examples of innovation journeys include personalized and functional nutrition (e.g., feed efficiency, food as medicine, alternative proteins, ingredient design, etc.) as well as microbiome engineering, bioavailability, soil treatment, smart agriculture, and more.

Eagle Genomics continues to be an active member of the EIT Food community. By contributing to the Day in the Life campaign and other initiatives, Eagle Genomics is playing an active role in supporting EIT Food’s mission to accelerate innovation to build a future-fit food system.
