International Wheat Yield Partnership (IWYP) Hub Coordinator

Location: CIMMYT’s Main Campus

We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, self-motivated, and experienced Hub Coordinator to join the IWYP (International Wheat Yield Partnership) team which is co-led by CIMMYT. For more information, please visit: http://iwyp.org/the-global-challenge/.

The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, known by its Spanish acronym, CIMMYT®, is a not-for-profit research and training organization with partners in over 100 countries. Please refer to our website for more information: www.cimmyt.org

The position will be based at CIMMYT’s Main Campus (located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, Mexico) and will interact with CIMMYT´s experimental station in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora and regional offices world-wide on a regular basis.

Specific duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Support IWYP-HUB leader, scientists, and technicians in developing annual plan for research-support and prebreeding activities at IWYP-HUB field sites in Obregon and El Batan.
  • Liaise with IWYP director and external collaborators on all matters relating to research support at the Mexican Hubs.
  • Perform quality control of IWYP experiments, translational research, and pre-breeding at Mexican Hubs including:
    • Germplasm acquisition, storage, and inventory.
    • Seed preparation for planting and oversight of sowing operation.
    • Crop management -including irrigations, fertilizations and disease and pest control.
    • Collection of complete and precise physiological data in the different trials.
    • Harvest activities and quality control to avoid mixtures and other errors.
    • Sample processing including for lab analysis.
    • Coordination of labor crews to ensure maximum work quality and efficiency.
    • Management of field data, including data curation and preparation of databases for analyses.
    • Refinement of quality control protocols for crossing and selection.

We are seeking candidates with the following academic qualifications, skills and attitudes:

  • Ph.D. in a Biological Science.
  • Minimum 5 years of Post-Doctoral experience.
  • Proven expertise planning and managing projects, including quality control.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience of lab technicians and field workers.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish (written and spoken).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience in field scale phenotyping, data curation, statistical analysis, and field trial management.
  • Effective collaborator and team player.
  • Proven organizational, leadership, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills
  • Availability to travel.

The position is for a contract of three (3) years, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds.
