Seed Production Research, Agronomist I

Location: Nampa, Idaho, USA

You will be a great fit if you have experience similar to:

Under the direction of the Large Seed – Production Research Manager, execute established Production Research trial plans. Plant trials, generate reliable information on the production of new hybrids, and parent lines. process samples and assist in reporting and distributing findings.

  • Collect agronomic data in nursery, production trials, & pilot fields to determine viability of production.
  • Take detailed phenotypic notes to measure and characterize new parent lines.
  • Lead organizing and preparing seed for trials, planting, and supporting data collection admin.
  • Monitor trial growth, assist in cultural care, direct field crews, and maintain trial plots.
  • Safely apply, and work with agrochemicals as needed.
  • Assist with and direct, harvest activities, manage labor crews.
  • Process post-harvest samples and distribute to testing lab, data entry.
  • Assist in data prep, organization, analysis & distribution of presentations.
  • Assist in off-site trials, field visits, as needed.
  • All other tasks/projects as assigned.

Other responsibilities:

  • Support in offsite trials through the Pacific Northwest.
  • Support other departments in planting activities.
  • Possess or be capable of obtaining a pesticide applicator's license.
  • Possess or be capable of obtaining a Certified Crop Advisor status.

Job requirements

To be considered, you will need: The candidate that will thrive in this role brings strong communication skills. We look for:

  • Preferred B.S. in Agriculture.
  • Preferred 2+ years' work experience in vegetable seed.
  • Open to recent or pending graduates.
     
  • Preferred Seed industry experience.
  • Ability to travel 3 to 4 times per year.
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Access, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Learn, and incorporate using data collection tools.
  • Ability to work independently or with a team on field-based tasks
     
  • English language fluency required. Spanish would be desirable.
