Canadian Seed Growers' Association’s perspectives on the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s SRM Policy Paper

Canada
August 19, 2025

The CFIA has 52 SRM proposals out for feedback (open until Oct 3).

We support: CSGA taking on more day-to-day administration activities, creation of a Seed Sector Advisory Committee, using Incorporation by Reference, and red tape reduction.

Key gaps remain: the CFIA taking on more with potentially fewer resources (risk of delays), national plan to monitor certified seed volumes, & over-regulation where flexible policy would suffice.

We are calling for more strategic delegation of key functions, addressing gaps that undermine the integrity of our system reporting & smart, flexible regulation to build a faster, fairer, future-ready seed system. Read more here
