Sakata Vegetables Europe is now recruiting two distinct permanent positions as Assistant Breeder in our station of Almeria (Spain): 

• Assistant Breeder - Cucurbits 
• Assistant Breeder - Pepper 

Missions 

We seek a person to assist with the breeding programs based in our station of Almeria in Spain. This position provides the right candidate with an excellent opportunity to develop a career with one of the leading global vegetable seed breeders. 

You will have to: 

• Implement and realise breeding objectives and processes, with the breeder’s guidelines: 
  • o Planning, organizing, planting and following breeding screening trials on-site and off-site 
  • o Planning, organizing and supervising breeding crossings; 
  • o Collecting, compiling, organizing and interpreting information generated from breeding trials 
• • Assist the breeding team in the day-to-day basic operations and activities of breeding programs including all aspects of seed management and movement, design of field and greenhouse trials, product evaluation, Biotech activities, etc 
• Coordinate with the Farm team to ensure the match between labour needs and activities 
• Coordinate off-site trials with growers 
• Play a key role in the implementation of the breeding database 
• Be in charge of specific project management with high autonomy 

To succeed in this position, you will also have to collaborate with pathology and biotechnologies laboratories teams for project implementation, as well as marketing, trials and product development teams abroad. 

Trips in Spain and abroad are to be expected. 

Profile 

• We are looking for candidates with a first working experience in the vegetable industry considering plant breeding or vegetables trials.
• A MSc degree level of qualification in agronomy or plant biology will be appreciated. 
• You are motivated, enthusiastic, with good communication and interpersonal skills. 
• Willing to work across a broad range of diverse tasks and environments, you can work autonomously as well as part of a team. 
• The successful candidate must show an appreciation of the accuracy and methodology of this type of work. 
• Dexterity and patience to perform delicate tasks are important. 
• Professional English and IT skills are necessary to complete all functions.
