Working collaboratively with all colleagues in Hazera and Limagrain Vegetables Seeds, we promote the development and application of key traits and technologies, identify and deploy breakthrough solutions that will improve breeding and research activities. The objective of the Global Director of Trait and Technologies is to be responsible for the execution of the global strategic “Trait and Technologies” plan with its associated budget. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to build strong internal and external relationships and deliver traits, technologies and services to breeders and scientists. He or she will have experience in a Plant Breeding, Trait development and Technology integration and will be based in Israel or Netherlands. The Trait and Technologies teams are located in Brurim (Israel), Warmenhuizen (Netherlands) and Rilland (Netherlands). The Global Trait and Technologies Director will be reporting to the Head of R&D. The position is part of R&D Management Team and the Global Leadership Forum. Functional relationships extend into the Limagrain Group towards trait/domain/crop coordinators of Limagrain’s Vegetable Seed Division.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Maintain, build and leverage internal and external networks to support timely delivery of business goals;
- Provide direct and functional leadership to experts within the fields of phytopathology, entomology, cell biology, genetics, data analytics, bioinformatics, data analytics and pre-breeding;
- Lead and develop the Trait and Technologies Lead team;
- Strengthen the knowledge base of the team within the afore mentioned fields and expand our freedom-to-operate and intellectual property position;
- Initiate and lead multidisciplinary programs aimed at innovation of hybrids;
- Work closely with breeding teams, understanding their needs and foster technology integration in breeding programs;
- Owner of trait and technology portfolio;
- Develop and maintain an international scientific network;
- Identify, assess and manage new partnership opportunities;
- Contribute to the global IP (intellectual property) strategy;
- In charge of the budget; monitor and control the OPEX, CAPEX & Staff budget execution.
Profile:
- PhD in Plant Breeding or in any of the above mentioned fields;
- Proven leadership skills with minimum 8 years of direct senior management experience experience in the field of breeding research, technologies and breakthrough solutions, with a proven track record of successful people development in which you have demonstrated the ability to inspire employees and external stakeholders at all levels;
- Understanding of Seeds business, preferably experience working for or with seed companies;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Demonstrated technical savviness across multiple domains;
- Ability to anticipate breeders and scientists needs coupled with strong skills of execution;
- Comfort with ambiguity and making progress without always having next steps clearly defined;
- Ability to (remotely) manage multiple interfaces, build positive relationship and collaboration with peers within the business unit and within Limagrain and with external companies;
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others and meet mutual goals in an ever changing and challenging environment, you have experience with leading change and continuous improvement management;
- Understand business objectives and act upon them, by making strategic choices;
- Excellent command of the English language;
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of your time.
