Purpose of the position:

Develop long-term strategic crop breeding plans for efficient implementation across East-West Seed Group.

Key Result Areas and Essential Responsibilities:

• Develop long-term strategic crop breeding plans, with assistance from plant breeders, and in close coordination with Country R&D Managers and Group Research Managers (Biotechnology and Plant Pathology) based on EWS Group strategic direction, market information and company resources.
• Review crop breeding year plans and budgets, ensuring effective coordination of activities with support functions.
• Develop long and medium term objectives for technology acquisition/development together with Group Research Managers based on EWS Group strategic direction and plant breeding development plans.
• Stay abreast of market, genetics/breeding, agronomy and pathology developments of relevant crops, and apply knowledge to effective implementation and development of projects.

Education and experience:

• Minimum M.SC in Plant Breeding * Minimum 8-10 years of experience as a successful plant breeder and having management ambition and potential
• Or minimum 3 years of research/plant breeding management experience
• Background in development and application of new breeding and genetics technologies, such as bioinformatics, genomic selection, etc.
• Willingness to travel frequently
• Strong team leader
• Maize genetics/plant breeding experience is a plus
