YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Farm Foreman, are to:
- Manage, support and direct the farm team and breeding related activities in line with the farm plan, guidelines and procedures and corporate values and vision in order to ensure an efficient and effective operating farm team;
- Instruct, train, inform and monitor Farm personnel, students, seasonal aides and foreign colleagues regarding the execution of breeding/research experiments and activities within the operational area of expertise;
- Provide task specific safety training and ensure personnel follow and comply with all HSE provisions;
- Ensure technology transfer to the farm team and breeding teams, and monitor the operational activities within the team and ensure the supplies and equipment to meet agreed standards, time planning and budgets, and contribute to an efficient and effective operating farm team;
- Ensure that there is continuous control of all the technical equipment;
- Manage the maintenance and surveillance of the equipment’s and installations and organize alarm service, surveillance and control during and outside working hours;
- Prepare the purchase of necessary supplies or maintenance, look for quotations, check the delivery of the supplies or quality of the maintenance and check the invoices;
- Ensure the working hours of the employees are assigned to the right program or project and analyze the realized working hours and take measures to stay within the agreed hour budgets;
- Organize the extra hours and the specific compensation for works (screening/ trailing) outside the farm;
- Prepare, and after approval of the Farm manager, implement specified operational crop budgets and operational plans for the team of the related area by analyzing discrepancies in realized and budgeted cost within the guidelines of the Farm department checking the realization of the budget and take corrective measures in order to ensure a correct and optimal realization of the crop breeding budgets and operational plan;
- Prepare, and after approval of the Farm manager, implement investments for specific areas. Check the optimal realization of the investments and ensure a correct and optimal functionality for the different users;
- Advise, propose, communicate and inform the Farm manager regarding the long and short term crop specific breeding policy, the work process and performance by means of drawing up project proposals and reports, giving feedback and developing proposals about the breeding programs in order to facilitate, advise and enable divisional and management decision making and keep the Farm manger up-to-date;
- Benchmark, follow courses, look for advice and visit fairs in order to be informed about all technological developments;
- Look for external agricultural partners and coordinate with them research, screening or trialing projects outside the farm;
- Support and provide the R&D, Operations and M&S with all necessary technical and product knowledge through structural and ad hoc working relations in order to facilitate their processes and decision making;
- Stay up-to-date and exchange important information about new developments that may be used in the related area in order to optimize the outcome of the Breeding, QA, Production and M&S programs;
- Manage, direct, and coordinate after approval of the Farm manager and in cooperation with HR, the personnel flow within the team, including appraisal, training and development and career planning by using HR instruments, guidelines, procedures and advice in order to select and maintain competent employees and ensure an efficient and effective functioning glasshouse team;
- Formulate a detailed project plan in cooperation with R&D, Facilities and after approval of the Farm manager ensure realization and evaluate the execution and results of the project with all involved parties in order to meet the agreed quality standards, time planning and budgets.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture or specific Agronomic and Management training and 3 years relevant experience in an Agricultural field of work, or, non-degreed with at least 5 years of experience working in an Agricultural Farm setting with minimum of 3 years of experience in managing teams;
- Proactive with proven experience managing multiple priorities;
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to communicate with different levels of stakeholders. Must be persuasive and have the ability to establish good rapport with stakeholders;
- Proficient with MS Office;
- Ability to obtain and keep current Oregon Pesticide Applicators license;
- Prefer experience in which a progressive and inventive way of thinking was utilized;
- General knowledge of OSHA requirements and prefer experience conducting safety training;
- Must be capable and competent of operating and training personnel on various types of Farm machinery;
- Ability to work in the following conditions: outdoor fields with adverse weather conditions; cold, wet, hot as well as working within the vicinity of bee hives and within greenhouse environments.
