Laboratory Technician – Molecular Biology M/F 

Temporary contract – 12 months 

Context 

Sakata Vegetables Europe is a subsidiary of Sakata Seed Corporation (Japan) and is responsible for the development and expansion of the activities across the EMEA area. With our wide array of vegetable seeds, we want to create a confidence-based relationship with our customers, working to our age-old motto of Quality, Reliability and Service. Our Molecular Biology laboratory activities are essential for the implementation and development of our breeding programs for various vegetables species. 

Missions 

Your role will be to support and contribute for all activities for molecular marking. Under the responsibility of our Biotechnologies Laboratories Manager, you will have to realise operational tasks as well as actively participate to the laboratory projects. 

You will have to : 

• Prepare sampling files for breeders 
• Perform samples picking 
• Realise manual extraction for plant DNA: preparing mix, grinding, putting on gel plate… 
• Perform PCR tests and migrations, with reliable reading and input of results 
• Test new protocols to improve and optimise molecular marking, especially MAS, SNP, fingerprinting… 
• Particpate to the development of new markers: bibliography, sequencing, probes and primers synthesis, tests and results analysis 

For these tasks you will have both laboratory and field work. You will collaborate with Pathology and Breeding teams. 

Profile 

• We are looking for candidates having at least 2/3 years working experience in a laboratory, related to seed/plant molecular biology. 
• A 5 years degree qualification level in plant biology or agronomy will be preferred. 
• You are good at planning and organising. 
• Quick learner, you will be able to be autonomous on short-term. 
• You are also flexible and can work in a small, dynamic team with occasionally fast changing priorities. 
• You operate methodically with high sense of detail. You are self-critical on your results. 
• Furthermore, we expect strong ability to cooperate easily with people from other departments and ensure regular reporting to the right person. 
• Mastery of professional English (especially science reading) as well as computer skills (Excel) in order to complete all functions will be appreciated. 
• Experience on Quantum Studio and use of TECAN robots are some plus.
