Postdoctoral Fellow in Plant Pathology and Plant Breeding

Location: Davis, California, USA

A postdoctoral position is available in the University of California, Davis Plant Breeding Center.

The position will be located in Salinas, California to facilitate development and implementation of molecular assays for in-field detection of the spinach downy mildew pathogen in leaves, and also co-development of downy mildew resistant breeding lines.  The successful candidate will have a strong background in plant pathology.    The postdoc will be expected to work closely with team leaders and collaborators and to write and publish manuscripts on the topic.

Expected Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate must be a highly motivated individual with a recent Ph.D. degree in Plant Pathology or Plant Sciences with emphases in plant pathology. Experience in development of assays  for molecular detection and characterization of pathogens by quantitative PCR, LAMP, or antibody-based approaches are highly desirable.

The candidate must be an effective written and oral communicator and possess creative problem solving skills with the ability to work both independently and in strong interaction with UC Davis and USDA/ARS research teams.
