HM.CLAUSE, a Company belonging to the LIMAGRAIN Group (9000 employees), is specialized in research, production and sales of vegetable seeds to professionals. HM.CLAUSE employs around 3300 people worldwide and achieves a continuous growing turnover. To support its development, HM.CLAUSE is looking for a Pre-Breeder - Watermelon based in Khonkaen, Thailand.

The main mission of the watermelon pre-breeder is to support varietal creation and innovation in collaboration with LVS breeding and technology teams. The Watermelon Pre Breeder will propose and lead Limagrain Vegetable Seeds upstream research projects on watermelon to transfer improved and novel genetic material to the breeding teams.

The position reports to the Asia VP R&D based in Bangkok, Thailand and to the Breeder Coordinator Cucurbits based in Davis, California.

Essentials duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Collect, maintain and characterize genetic resources
• Identify innovative traits in collaboration with breeders
• Manage a small team
• Develop new phenotyping methodologies for selected traits
• Lead/participate trait projects in close collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams (breeding, pathology, markers, genomics)
• Genetic trait dissection selecting the most relevant approaches and generating  appropriate populations
• Coordinate watermelon pre-breeding projects between Limagrain Vegetable Seeds and external partners
• Monitor technological developments in terms of general and fundamental pre-breeding knowledge in collaboration with other LVS pre-breeders
• Assist EMEA and AMPA breeding programs with rapid cycling activities in Thailand including marker sampling activities, sowing and harvest, and selection under the direction of  project leaders

Profile and abilities

• Scientific degree specialized in Genetics/Breeding (Master's, PhD)
• Good knowledge of population, quantitative and molecular genetics applied to plant improvement
• Knowledge in pathology and physiology
• Genuine field and plant observation interest
• Knowledge  in data statistical analyses
• Ability to propose and manage multiple projects
• Ability to work within a team and within a multicultural environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Good organization and coordination abilities
• Close interaction with local R&D team to get good support to perform pre breeding activities of watermelon

Localization:

• Position located in Khonkhaen, Thailand.

• Significant travel to interact with HMC, LVS and external collaborators and to visit trials.

Languages:

• Fluent in English. French notions would be a plus.
