Team Lead Quality Control

Location: Parma, Idaho, USA

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Team Lead Quality Control, are to:

  • Establish, implement, and communicate team policies and procedures, and team and individual targets, to provide clear expectations, an efficient team, and a positive working environment;
  • Ensure all team members are adequately trained and directed to follow and understand accredited procedures and protocols for consistent test performance according to internal standards and external rules and regulations. Define and promote a safe working environment for all employees and contractors;
  • Maintain a qualified and cooperative team by providing clear and constructive feedback to continuously support the professional development of QC technicians. Train, coach, and support the QC technicians in order to broaden their knowledge, increase problem solving skills, and improve delegation;
  • Monitor and verify that resources (facilities, equipment, operating budget, and personnel) are sufficient to meet business needs. Provide a transparent view of testing capacity. Implement actions necessary to achieve agreed performance targets (safety, quality, efficiency, delivery, and involvement) and communicate gaps to manager and other stakeholders;
  • Analyze trends, identify risks, and advocate for new and improved processes, methods, and technologies to improve the efficiency and reliability of the functional department. Lead improvement projects both within the team and interdepartmentally;
  • Ensure training and proficiency records, equipment maintenance and calibration records, and other documents within the quality management system are accurate and current, and develop new documents and forms as needed to maintain a systematic process approach;
  • Coordinate with external growers, testing laboratories, Production, Breeders, and Farm Services, including international colleagues, to ensure accurate and timely performance of testing activities;
  • Perform repetitive tasks in laboratory, greenhouse, and field settings with variable environmental conditions while sitting, standing, walking, and/or bending. Travel domestically and internationally as required;
  • Provide timely, reliable and verifiable QC test results to enable the Quality Assurance Specialists to accurately assess the risks from individual seed lots and maintain the availability of inventory for Sales;
  • Provide transparency for the safety, quality, efficiency, delivery, and involvement performance levels of the QC team and take ownership for continuous improvement to achieve agreed targets;
  • Maintain external certification and compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with 3 years of relevant work experience in the seed industry or in a quality control laboratory;
  • Project management experience;
  • Desire and ability to lead others;
  • Team player;
  • Detail and quality oriented;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Pro-active decision-making;
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of quality management systems and lab certification schemes;
  • Degree in Agriculture or Life Sciences is preferred.
