Area Development Manager, Andean Countries
Location: Colombia, Peru or Venezuela OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
East-West Seed International is expanding and developing its business in Latin America. Exciting Market opportunities have been identified for the Andean Countries (Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru), distributors have been found. Now we need the execution power to transform opportunities in results, in close cooperation with our distributors. This position requires a diplomatic, social and technically skilled person to develop a distribution relation and product development strategy for the area.
MOST IMPORTANT GOALS
- Main countries to be developed: Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Venezuela
- Main crops to be developed: papaya, determinate tomato, onion, papaya, melon, watermelon and sweet corn.
- Convinces and challenges distributors in his area to maximize sales and product development results.
- Gathers and analyzes market data for his assigned area and takes the lead in recommending and implementing EWS’ product development strategy.
- Sets up, coordinates and evaluates product development trials in the Andean countries.
- Generates new business opportunities by locating and proposing potential business deals that fulfill the vision of EWS, contacting potential distributors /partners, discovering and exploring opportunities.
- Screens potential business deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials; by evaluating options, resolving internal priorities and recommending actions for growing EWS’ business Develops technical information (eg growers’ recommendations, product descriptions, etc) for new products, in order to improve market introductions
- Builds effective partnerships with distributors and other units of the EWS Group; transitions business development activities into commercial operations.
JOB LOCATION:
The candidate should be based in Colombia, Peru or Venezuela with frequent travel to Guatemala and occasionally to Thailand. The base maybe transferred to another location later.
WORK RELATIONSHIPS: ·
Reports to the Business Development Manager – Latin America · Closely cooperates with EWS Product Managers, PDS, Logistics on coordinating samples · Partners with other EWS units, as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain strong relationship with distributors and continuously challenge them to improve their product and market development.
- Maintain strong know-how on relevant East West products for the area and being able to give in depth technical advices on cultural management and production.
- Gather and analyze market data for his area;
- Take the lead in the Product Development Strategy for his area; Identify potential opportunities, considering un-served markets, unaddressed customer segments, opportunities and likely increases in market demand; assess the probability of success and the profitability for each proposed venture.
- Be the first point of contact for distributors in the area.
- Develop technical and commercial policy in the area, in cooperation with the Area Manager – Latin America.
- Closely cooperate with EWS product managers, PDS, logistics and sample coordination.
- Receive and accompany EWS people when travelling through the area
ON-GOING RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate orders of distributors
- Responsible for forecast (FC).
- Keeping close track on FC changes
- Responsible for pricing (in close cooperation) with BDM
- Responsible for implementation of year round trial plan in the assigned countries (with distributors). This includes in time sample coordination,trial evaluation and decision taking.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5 year experience in Seed Industry
- Agronomic Engineer
- Self-driven, can deliver results by influencing / supporting others.
- Diplomatic, develops authority and confidence by technical knowledge and commercial instinct.
- Excellent communication competencies.
- Social, being able to act as a partner for our distributors
- Patient.
- Being able to cooperate with different cultures.
- Proven track record in a multi-cultural environment
- Excellent English, reporting and presentation skills
- Learning Agility; willing to learn the products, processes and organization of East-West Seeds
- Willing to travel 60 % of the time.
