The Protein Analysis group is a service function within BPS research.
The group is a member of the Molecular Analysis Technology Center that utilizes molecular analytical technologies to support the trait discovery platform at BASF Plant Science. This group provides completed work package tasks which help advance BPS research projects to commericalization. Responsibilities of the position will involve planning, designing strategy and executing laboratory based workpackages to express and purify recombinant expressed proteins, develop and perform immunological and biochemical assays for proteins, that will, in turn, aid protein based discovery research and trait development. The Scientist will also prepare data summaries, reports and presentation on research results.
The Scientist will ensure experiments are conducted within applicable regulatory guidelines, and maintain broad knowledge of state-of-the -art principles, theories and technologies and will generate new ideas that will help further develop BPS traits. This person will provide protein identification, detection and assay support to the group. This person will contribute his/her technical and theoretical expertise on a day to day basis to the team. He/she must have creative problem solving skills, strong planning and organizational capabilities and have the ability to work with all levels in the organization. (S)he will interact with different project teams and provide scientific expertise in protein research for each project.
Qualifications
Required:
- BS degree in biochemistry, plant science, weed science, plant pathology, or related field, with greater than 10 years or MS degree in same with 7 years or PhD degree in same with 2 years of experience in industry setting in the area of biochemistry or related field.
- Proven hands on experience in most of the following techniques: protein isolation and purification, protein expression with and without tag, immunological and biochemical analyses, mass spectrometric data analysis for protein identification, structural and other computational analysis of proteins etc.
- Strong background in plant molecular biology, biochemistry and immunological methods is required.
Desired:
- PhD degree in biochemistry, plant science, weed science, plant pathology, or related field, with 3 years or more in protein research and/or biochemistry experience.
- Hands on experience in technologies to identify protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions.
- Experience in developing high throughput protein assay.
- Knowledge on how to set up databases based on laboratory generated data. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education that are accredited by the Council for Higher Education
Accreditation or equivalent. This position is within a job family and will be filled at a level applicable to the incumbent's qualifications.
