Our Shakopee, MN location is actively recruiting for a Seed Production & Greenhouse Manager. In this role, you will manage seed productions and Greenhouses at our Sugarbeet research station. This position will be responsible for the production of experimental sugarbeet seed which may include, but is not limited to; seedling production, oversight of seed production and detailed planning and reporting processes and ensuring that the Green Houses are maintained correctly for the maintenance of plant health.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work with Plant Breeders conducting seed productions.
- Manage and conduct regulated resepleae arch Seed Production and greenhouse activities.
- Manage greenhouse activities including environmental control, pest control, fertility, watering, seedling production, vernalizing, selfing and hand crosses.
- Manage seed plot site selection, fertility, planting, watering, pest management, weed control, structure assembly, data collection, plot maintenance, rouging, harvest and record keeping.
- Manage staff ensuring all workers are following safety and regulatory protocol and proper training is being conducted.
- Manage budget costs related to specific research activities.
- Responsible for staying current on all regulatory compliance requirements for GMO trials and seed productions.
- Ensure Company handbook, Rules, Guidelines and Procedures and safety policies are followed and personal protective equipment is used correctly.
- Regular travel and/or drive on behalf of the business.
- Work non-standard hours, including weekends as needed.
- Meet attendance requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science or equivalent in agronomy, agriculture, business, biology or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge and experience in seed and crop production and/or research greenhouse experience.
- Ability to work variable hours including occasional weekends as required by the business.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
- Demonstrated strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational and communication skills with consistent attention to detail.

The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Working outdoors and indoors within variable conditions including heat, cold, dust wind and rain. Field and greenhouse environments with exposure to pollen and handling chemicals.
