Job Description and Qualifications
Position Description:
Forage Genetics is seeking a highly motivated Statistical Geneticist to design, develop and implement new genetic models, analytical methodologies and computational approaches to forage improvement. With expertise in statistical genetics, genomics and programming, the ideal candidate will conduct independent research in complex trait dissection and prediction focused on the analysis of next-generation sequencing data. The Statistical Geneticist will work in close collaboration with a team of plant breeders and trait geneticists in alfalfa, corn silage and sorghum.
Required Experience:
- PhD Degree in Statistics, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or related discipline;
- Extensive knowledge of quantitative genetics, animal or plant breeding and the technologies used in the seed industry;
- Strong command of statistics and probability and their application to quantitative analysis of large genomic data sets;
- Extensive experience in R-programming language;
- Proven track record manipulating and analyzing next-generation sequencing data; Experience in experimental design, mixed models, non-linear mixed models, multivariate statistics and non-parametric analysis;
- Desire to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Proven teamwork and leadership skills.
- High creativity, excellent communication, problem-solving and critical thinking skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Experience:
- Five or more years of industry experience;
- Background and experience in Bayesian applications;
- Demonstrated programming skills and experience in SAS, Python or SQL;
- Knowledge or experience in plant breeding or multi-environment field trials;
- Industry experience; Ability to engage with internal partners and external collaborators.
