Your tasks and responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this role, Agronomist III, are to:
- Provide robust phenotypic and yield data from sites across the Great Plains winter wheat region to multiple scientists in the hybrid wheat breeding program for timely breeding decisions and assist with breeding activities as needed;
- Process seeds in a timely manner, planting, note taking, and harvesting of yield trial materials;
- Implement statistical designs and conduct data acquisition, curation, analysis and reporting using breeding database (Prism);
- Develop collaborative relationships with third party contractors that provide yield trial services, and with land owners that host wheat breeding yield trials and assist with contracts;
- Train and manage contract laborers (usually between 2 to 8) to complete multiple ongoing activities in compliance with Stewardship and Safety requirements;
- Ensure compliance and participation of Safety, Stewardship and Regulatory policies, while setting high standards of professional conduct;
- Interact with other BCS wheat breeding and research teams (including Agronomic Services, Seed Production and Digital Farming), to further research efforts that enhance the spectrum and success of BCS wheat programs;
- Domestic travel up to 30%;

Required Qualifications:
- PhD with minimum years relevant experience or MS with minimum of 2 years relevant experience or BS with minimum of 5 years relevant experience;
- Work under limited supervision; •Experience with GPS/GIS systems;
- Trouble-shooting equipment while maintaining off-site locations;
- Assess management needs, capture data, recognize compromises to trial integrity;
- In-depth knowledge of crop management practices;
- Fundamental understanding of statistical analysis and experimental designs;
- Excellent communication and human relations skills along with strong computer and time-management skills;
- Capably presents findings to others internally or externally;
- Recommends improvements to procedures and strategies in team setting while adapting strategies to agronomic situations and provides input to allow other Agronomists to do the same;
- Growers / cooperatives consider agronomist to be a demonstrated “expert” in trial management, solving complex solutions quickly in consultation with those more experienced;
- Safeguard sensitive information, knowing that erroneous decisions or recommendations could compromise Company reputation in a moderate way with impact to current profitability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Thesis-based MS degree in a biological or agricultural related science;
- Specialized knowledge of wheat agronomic and quality characteristics.
