Seed Program Specialist

Location: Richvale, California, USA

Today, the third and fourth generations carry on the family heritage by using eco-positive farming methods that produce wholesome, healthful rice, rice cakes, rice chips and risottos while improving and protecting the environment for generations to come.

The Seed Program Specialist assists the Nursery Manager and Breeder in preparing for and executing the nursery plan for selecting, developing and perpetuating varieties of rice that support the company's sale of rice products.  Success in this position will contribute to the company's ability to maintain certification of selected varieties, improve on current varieties and provide sufficient seed to meet production requirements. The Seed Program Specialist will also provide support to other field crop research projects to meet the company's need for new product development and sustainability.

Some Essential Functions & Responsibilities include:

  • Headrow and Seed Production
    Assist in seed preparation, planning, planting, maintenance and harvest of headrow and small plots for breeder seed or foundation seed production
  • Breeding Nursery Support
    Assist in seed preparation, planning, planting, maintenance and harvest of breeding nursery for variety evaluation and new line development.
  • Greenhouse and Field Trials
    Assist in execution of field and greenhouse trials of other crops (e.g., quinoa, beans and cover crops) through seed introduction, planting, harvesting, data collection and analysis.
  • Seed Storage Facility Maintenance
    Maintain Nursery seed storage areas, freezers, and other facilities through minor repairs, sanitation, and routine maintenance. 

Education and Experience

  • B.S. in agriculture or crop/plant sciences
  • Minimum of two to three years of work experience in seed production industry is required.
  • Work experience with rice is plus.
