Tozer Seeds Ltd. is an independent plant breeding company producing and marketing vegetable seeds for the professional market and is renowned for its innovation and creativity in developing new fresh product concepts.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Plant Breeding team, based in Cobham, Surrey, United Kingdom as a Plant Breeder to take responsibility for breeding new varieties of a range of vegetable crops. 

JOB BRIEF

The successful candidate will report to the Senior Plant Breeder, initially working under close supervision on our full range of different breeding programmes to gain experience, before specialising in a smaller product portfolio. They would be expected to develop a full understanding of the international fresh produce industry through regular interaction with our customers and be able to independently develop unique new commercially successful varieties. An understanding of changing market conditions and consumer trends is required in order to ensure the breeding remains commercially relevant. 

The breeding work will be entirely field and greenhouse-based with appropriate support from our laboratory team. The candidate would be expected to keep up to date with scientific advances in plant breeding techniques, show a talent for innovation and be able to demonstrate an ability to lead their specialist breeding programmes independently.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• A relevant plant-based biological degree and appropriate postgraduate qualification.
• Highly motivated team player and an excellent communicator. 
• Practical ‘hands on’ approach to plant breeding and able to take a willing attitude to assisting with all tasks in the breeding department as required.
• Experience with the commercial fresh produce sector is desirable.
• Organised and shows initiative, pride and passion for quality and performance. 
• Computer skills and experience with Microsoft outlook, Excel and Word.
• Must have a valid driving licence.
