Genomic Selection Manager

JOB RESPONSIBILITY:
- Evaluate, develop and promote breeding strategies using Marker Assisted and Genomic Selection (GS)
- Coordinate GS Breeding strategies with breeders and other supporting areas.
- Conduct breeding trials to evaluate GS alternatives
- Establish molecular breeding steps in agreement with the breeders
- Monitor the progress of the implementation of GS at different stages of the inbreeding program, selection and trialing
- Lead researchers for developing and interpreting molecular data needed to enable GS.
- Coordinate with breeders, statisticians and database managers the capture, upload and storage of all data necessary to implement successful GS strategies.
- Interact with the statistical group to develop the necessary tools and analyses for GS.
- Interact with Public and University Research Groups working in Genomic Prediction applied to Plant Breeding
EDUCATION QUALIFICATION:
MSc (Ag) (preferred PhD) in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Molecular Genetics/Breeding or related field of study
EXPERIENCE & DESIRED SKILLS:
- Seven to ten years of breeding experience in seed industry
- Experience in applying GS to plant breeding programs
- Excellent organizational skills and project management
- Team worker – ability to develop and foster teams and teamwork
- Persuasive Communication – both in public and private environments
- Leadership – ability to lead and manage support staff within a complex business environment.
