Data Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Coordination and support for all the breeding and genetic/molecular data systems of the company. The data manager has the role of defining the requirements for, and securing, the capture, storage and dissemination of genotype and phenotype breeding data.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Planning, managing, implementation and supporting all data systems for breeding and molecular lab activities.
- Ensure data integrity and performance of production databases. Support the development of data loads and extracts.
- Mapping and derivation logic of breeding and molecular data in order to assure data flow. Coordinate/develop a data management pipeline for phenotypic and high-throughput genotypic data (markers, sequences, etc)
- Contribute to the development/improvement of proprietary database systems and surrounding tools (e.g. dashboard, reports, etc.)
- Support the development, and integration with current data systems, of products for data analysis, visualization and reporting.
- Provide training, and support users on the different database systems
- Key liaison between the research users (breeders, molecular scientist, statisticians) and IT to provide subject matter expertise, represent the data interests of the research users and facilitate prioritization of deliverables.
- Perform additional duties as required.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATION:
- Bachelor's/Master Degree in subject areas relating to technology/data management or equivalent experience.
EXPERIENCE & DESIRED SKILLS:
- A thorough understanding of Linux and windows.
- Demonstrated skills in computer programming
- Experience in data processing, management and knowledge of database software.
- Sufficient knowledge and experience to critically appraise proposed IT solutions.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Excellent team player with the ability to work within an international breeding team and to clearly communicate computational concepts.
- Self-motivated proactive with good organization skills.
- Some biological understanding would be desirable.
- Experiences in breeding and/or molecular information management are a plus
