Ball FloraPlant is a leading brand of vegetatively propagated plant varieties that has won critical acclaim for its ability to produce clean, healthy cuttings. Its dynamic breeding program has produced the award-winning Black Velvet Petunia, and popular introductions like Presto Geraniums and Voltage Yellow Ostepspermum.

We are currently looking for a creative and talented plant breeder to develop new and improve existing varieties of commercial vegetatively propagated ornamental plans which fit the product specifications of Ball FloraPlant and its partner distribution companies. This position will interact with production, product managers, sales, research, etc. This position will travel to regional trial sites to make evaluations and selections and present to Sales and Management recommended product introductions. Other responsibilities include supervision of two breeder technicians.

Requirements for this role are a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding; minimum of 5 years’ experience in breeding; experience with ornamental crops preferred; M.S. degree with significant experience will also be considered

• Ability to work as an integral part of a team and willing to learn;
• Experience in practical plant breeding; exceptional motivation and creativity;
• Must be well organized, able to communicate effectively and possess attention to detail and follow-though;

Salary commensurate with experience;

Travel approximately 10-20% of time.

Physical Requirements

Have the ability to work in a greenhouse setting in various temperature conditions as required; ability to walk and maneuver through the greenhouse and benches and stand on your feet for periods of time.

Staff: This position has two breeder technicians reporting to.
Budgets: This position does not have responsibility for establishing budgets, but must act in-line with budget requirements as set by Ball FloraPlant Director of Research.
