Your tasks and responsibilities
This position is designed to develop and implement cell biology technologies and functions in Research and Development Division.
The primary responsibilities of this role, as Scientist I, are to:
- Conducts complex activities that require specialized knowledge and the broad application of plant cell and tissue techniques;
- Takes initiative in keeping current with literature in areas of assignment and in areas of professional interest;
- Plan, design, coordinate and implement a research plan for specific crops or projects and coordinate and execute the process of the continuous discovery and development of technologies, procedures, and products;
- Use in-depth knowledge of plant cell and tissue culture for developing and improving plant tissue culture protocols for vegetable crops;
- Establish plant tissue culture protocols as well as modify and improve existing protocols;
- Assumes supervisory responsibility as needed;
- Assist the Scientist in coordinating the tasks and responsibilities of technical and student assistants in the lab.

Required qualifications: Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
- Candidates should possess a Master’s of Science degree in plant biology, genetics, plant breeding or a related field with experience of at least 2 years in a plant cell biology research laboratory with demonstrated skills of plant tissue culture, cell culture regeneration and double haploid production;
- Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in the above fields with suitable practical experience will be considered (minimum of 5 years);
- Ability to solve complex problems through deductive reasoning and the application of scientific principles;
- Capable of design and interpretation of scientific experiments;
- Ability to manage multiple projects;
- Organized record keeping and report writing;
- Ability to work independently and also as part of a team is important;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills;
- Strong familiarity with PC and Microsoft programs;
- Willingness and capacity to learn and acquire relevant new skill sets.
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge in areas such as double haploid techniques, cryopreservation, mass propagation, protoplast culture, and genome modification is desirable.
