YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The purpose of the Wheat Trait Development Coordinator and Sabin Site Manager role is (1) to manage the Trait Development and Hypercare farm site in Sabin, and (2) to coordinate the Trait Development Wheat activities in all TD wheat sites in North-America. As Site Manager, the job holder is responsible for the correct execution of the agreed Field Programs for all crops (Soy, Corn, Wheat) and all Technologies (Traits, Breeding, Small molecules, Biologics) on site, as part of the Research and Development Pipelines. This includes both on-site field trials and seed logistics. As TD Wheat coordinator, the job holder is responsible for a high-quality field screening of wheat traits in line with Research and Development objectives in order to ensure competitive products can be developed in the shortest time as possible with good cost effectiveness. This includes appropriate field trial setup as well as managing the seed logistics for Wheat trait R&D to ensure sufficient, high-quality and homogenous seed is used in the field trials.
This position requires working in a multi-regional and multi-disciplinary team in order to manage operations and execute Research and Development objectives. This position will directly coordinate all agronomists in Sabin (MN), collaborate with agronomists in Shafter (CA) and Canada, and will be at the interface with Breeding North-America and Research to ensure a smooth transition of traits through the R&D pipeline.
The primary responsibilities of this role, Wheat Trait Development Coordinator, are to:
- •Develop and implement a sustainable Site Management in order to deliver high quality field data and sufficient high-quality homogeneous seed;
- Lead an enthusiastic team of agronomists and seasonal employees on site;
- Accountable for adherence to local regulations and Regulatory Affairs and Stewardship Directives, QHSE, and responsible for site budget spendings;
- Develop and implement an appropriate and high-quality field screening for wheat traits in line with Research and Development objectives and Business plans, based on expertise in wheat agronomy and trait physiology;
- Functionally manage a team of site managers and wheat agronomists in North-America to ensure consistent and coherent execution of the field screening and seed logistics in all sites;
- Elaborate the short and mid-term regional plan for TD wheat activities in North-America;
- Contribute to the strategic planning for wheat and ensure implementation of Wheat Business plans under the leadership of Trait Development and Business Managers;
- Maintain an overview on the key Wheat activities in North-America in the area of research, breeding, supply chain, public institutes, competitors Understand in order to bring into perspective competitive and market landscape, farmer’s needs, and to establish a network of relationship in support of setting up and consolidate Trait Development operations;
- Stay up-to-date on local seed regulations to obtain the necessary approvals (registration, import permit, etc.) in time for the trials.
WHO YOU ARE
Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
- •PhD in Biology, Biochemistry or Agriculture with comprehensive understanding of wheat agronomy and plant genetics;
- Minimum 5 – 7 years’ experience of which at least 3 in (relevant) Field Trials;
- Understanding of plant genetics to develop, execute and revise SOP’s to assure QC/QA and regulatory compliance plus event purity;
- Expertise in plant breeding and field plot execution plus experience in the execution of confined trials;
- Knowledge in Wheat agronomy and experience with all field activities from seeding to harvesting;
- Excellent communication and reporting skills;
- Project Management and organization & planning;
- Leadership and Management skills;
- Understanding in regulatory and business environment in North-America is an advantage;
- Willingness to frequently travel within the region with occasional intercontinental travel.
