UC Davis Plant Breeding Coordinator & Trainer
Location: Davis, California, USA The Student Farm at UC Davis, a program of the Agricultural Sustainability Institute, has an open position for a Plant Breeding Coordinator & Trainer. This position will be housed at the Student Farm and will work in collaboration with the Plant Breeding Center in relation to a recently awarded Organic Agriculture Research and Extension Initiative (OREI) grant: http://orei.faculty.ucdavis.edu/
Under general supervision, the Plant Breeding Coordinator & Trainer will:
- Conduct and coordinate plant breeding research and the development of new crop cultivars appropriate for organic production systems, and supervise, instruct and train students in plant breeding research.
- Help conduct, supervise and coordinate plant breeding research and cultivar development in several crops. Conduct and supervise field and greenhouse experiments; management of experimental crops; seed management and storage; data collection and summarization; record keeping, data and information management; and, coordination of on-farm field experiments.
- Supervise, instruct and train students in practical aspects of plant breeding research and managing experiments, including all of those indicated in previous paragraph, in field, greenhouse and lab spaces and using interactive formats, demonstrations and other methods. Coordinate efforts of project participants and stakeholders via frequent meetings and communication with all parties.
