Senior Research Associate (11926BR)
Location: Woodland, California, USA Pioneer Hi-Bred, a Dupont business, is currently seeking a Senior Research Associate in Woodland, CA. The Senior Research Associate is a key member of a team committed to performing a variety of duties essential to the Global Sunflower Research and Product Development program.
The Senior Research Associate performs duties essential for a comprehensive commercial sunflower global breeding program. Organize and manage; field arrangements, seed preparation, planting, tissue sampling, pollination, spraying, labeling, harvest, NMR analysis and fatty acid profile analysis of trait introgression experiments and nurseries in California and Hawaii. Facilitate marker assisted selection, coordinating DNA sampling and processing efforts through marker production labs. Manage breeder’s seed increases from trait introgression nurseries and support yield testing efforts. Some lifting (up to 50 lbs) is required.
This position will require extended hours during peak periods. Travel will be necessary to assist at off-season nursery locations.
Continuous training will be required in order to obtain new skills needed for utilization of new technologies and to stay current with changes in the industry.
A Master’s degree in Plant breeding, agronomy and/or plant genetics and minimum of 2 to 4 years of industry related experience or equivalent level of relevant education and experience required. Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills are required. Must be competent with computer hardware and software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Candidates should possess a demonstrated ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. The candidate must have the ability to train/supervise employees and have the ability to work as a strong team member as well as work independently when needed. Must have the ability to obtain a commercial pesticide applicator license. Fluent in English and Spanish. Ability to function in a multi-cultural team and facilitate the multi-crop center interactions between work groups. Experience working with breeding nurseries, agronomic trials in the field, inbred descriptors and variety registration.
