Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, is currently seeking a Research Associate in Moorhead, Minnesota to be a key member of a team committed to performing a variety of duties essential to the Global Sunflower program.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Manage sunflower yield testing efforts; establish yield test locations in North and South Dakota with grower cooperators; organize equipment movements for planting, spraying and harvest  operations; and, organize winter nursery plantings for hybrid creation experiments.
• Organize and manage: field arrangements; seed preparation; planting; tissue sampling; bagging; pollination; harvest; note taking; and, NMR analysis and fatty acid profile analysis of field experiments and nurseries.
• Collect, organize, analyze and report field data in PRISM.
• Direct and supervise part-time, seasonal and intern labor. Some lifting (up to 50 lbs) is required.
• This position may require extended hours and travel to assist with experiments at other research locations.
• Continuous training will be required in order to obtain new skills needed for utilization of new technologies and to stay current with changes in the industry.

Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in plant breeding, agronomy and/or plant genetics and minimum of 2 to 4 years of industry related experience or equivalent level of relevant education and experience.

Competencies and Experience Desired:

• Excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills are required.
• Must be competent with computer hardware and software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Candidates should possess a demonstrated ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• The candidate must have the ability to train/supervise temporary employees and have the ability to work as a strong team member as well as work independently when needed.
• Must have the ability to obtain a Class A commercial driver’s license and commercial pesticide applicator license.
• A strong farming background is preferred.
• Ability to operate farm/field equipment is required.
• Experience working with breeding nurseries and agronomic trials in the field is desired.
