This position is part of the Mycogen Seeds Field Station group. Mycogen is an affiliate of Dow AgroSciences, LLC (DAS). Under the general supervision of the Field Station Operations Leader, the Field Research Biologist will apply field breeding methodologies, computer database skills, provide field plot design expertise, interpersonal skills, agronomic expertise, and field equipment experience for the corn projects. All actions will be conducted in a safe manner. Additionally this position will support the Station Operations Leader with administration and site specific projects to ensure location goals are met.
Responsibilities will include:
- Contribute leadership skills, ideas and support for all station initiatives including those relating to Human Resources, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), and cross-functional teams.
- Supervise and plan out duties for part-time positions at the Sidney station including training and supervision of a thinning crew, summer nursery pollinating crew, and leading a crew to take yield trial notes.
- Conduct various field research activities for corn including but not limited to, assisting in coordinating breeding efforts in summer and winter nurseries, establishing working relationships with grower cooperators and potential customers, planting, thinning, note-taking, harvesting, data analysis, reporting, and sample shipping.
- Travel to outlying trial locations and other Research Stations and Laboratories as needed.
- Become proficient in the corn yield trial and nursery database including field setup, data loading, printing field books, packets and labels, data analysis and harvest advancement.
- Assist in marker projects and coordinate sampling schedules.
- Assist in data analysis and make selections in local breeding projects.
- Ensure that DAS EH&S, Department of Transportation (DOT) and station regulations and policies are enforced.

Qualifications:
- Bachelors or Masters Degree or equivalent experience in Crop Genetics, Agronomy or a related field is required.
- Solid understanding of agronomy, statistics, field equipment and customer's needs is highly desired.
- Previous experience with crop breeding program is desirable.
- Demonstrated personal leadership, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills are required.
- Ability to take initiative and work effectively on teams is essential for success.
- Must have enthusiasm and aptitude for learning and continuous improvement of critical research activities.
- CDL and Pesticide license, or the ability to acquire, is strongly desired.
- Well-developed computer skills are required.
