Research Agronomist

Location: Janesville, Wisconsin, USA

The Research Agronomist will provide leadership in the final testing of the advanced seed lines from the Seed Breeding Program of Seneca Foods.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Overseeing all aspects of each trial, resulting in the development of supporting data and recommendations for improved products and operations.
  • Development and implementation of field plot testing plans for advanced lines of peas and garden beans as requested.
  • Coordinate and assist with seed preparation and packaging for shipping and planting.
  • Performing tasks in support of safety related company policies and practices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCE:

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Highly motivated self-directed individual with the ability to manage time & meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills to support experimental design and statistical analyses.
  • Participative leadership style and willingness to work within a team.
  • Willingness to work outside for extended periods of time during the growing season.
  • Willingness to travel (including overnight) as needed during the growing season.
  • 3-5+ years relevant hands on experience in Agriculture or Horticulture.
  • College degree in Agriculture or related field (helpful, but not required depending on level of experience.

OTHER:

  • The individual filling this position will fill the gap between research and production through improvement of trial accuracy and allow development of additional studies that may include treatments such as inoculation, planting density, fertility, fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides.
  • Environmental and varietal interactions make these ongoing studies essential for the identification of improved varieties.
  • Potential testing environments include: Central Sands, Mayville, Janesville, Antigo, Illinois, and Minnesota.
