Assistant Cotton Breeder - R&D Specialist III
Location: Lubbock, Texas, USA The primary responsibilities of this role, as an Assistant Cotton Breeder (R&D Specialist III, are to:
- Manage the technical aspects of new cultivar development in support of the strategic plan;
- Effectively document and communicate research/program findings;
- Coordinate and manage breeding program(cross block, field, off-site locations, greenhouse, counter-season and seed movement within the program;
- Conduct plant phenotyping and physiology research to optimize crop performance and enhance crop efficiency;
- Improve applications conditions, implement new technology;
- Recruit, interview and hire temporary and permanent staff for breeding site;
- Ensure compliance with all existing safety, QMS, Stewardship and regulatory standards.

More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
- MS with 1+ years of relevant experience
OR
BS with 4+ years of relevant experience in Agronomy, Horticulture, Science, Plant Breeding, Biology or related field;
- Knowledge of entire system of variety development and hybridization to breeder seed is essential;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Strong attention to details;
- Team player with excellent interpersonal skills;
- Self-motivated with demonstrated communication skills;
- Working knowledge of personal computers, MS software, and PRISM;
- Knowledge of statistical models used in breeding preferred;
- Strong background in cotton agronomy and physiology, statistical design and analysis, laboratory cottonseed processing techniques, cotton fiber quality, as well as genetics and plant breeding required.
