Description of Job:
Locally manage and execute a research program focused on mycorrhiza and the plant rhizosphere that is directed towards the discovery and early development of new biorational products for enhanced plant growth in horticultural and agronomic crops.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Working closely with a multi-state team of scientists, provide hands-on scientific expertise in conducting experiments with plants, mycorrhiza, other soil micro-organisms, and plant growth regulator materials.
- Design, plan, conduct, analyze and interpret growth chamber and greenhouse experiments to discover and evaluate new leads and make suggestions regarding research direction.
- Help generate new technology and product ideas and demonstrate early-stage technical proof of concept.
- Help facilitate research collaborations with external cooperators.
- Participate in cross-functional new product development and product life cycle management projects teams.
Experience:
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research with plants.
- Practical experience growing plants in growth chamber and greenhouse environments.
- Hands-on experience working with soil micro-organisms, including standard aseptic techniques.
- Hands-on microscopy skills.
- Working familiarity with common laboratory equipment, including GC and HPLC instrumentation.
- Prior industry experience in discovery, product development and/or technical product support is desirable.
Skills:
- A self-starter who is well organized and demonstrates excellent time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Routine use of MS software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Working knowledge of experimental design, statistics and use of associated computer software.
- Prior experience with electronic notebooks a definite plus.
Education:
- M.S. degree in Soil Microbiology, Mycology, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Agronomy, Horticulture or related field with 3-5 years of relevant research experience.
- Domestic/International travel: 10-15%
