In order to support our continuous growth, we are currently recruiting a V.I.E - JUNIOR TOMATO BREEDER based at our research facility in Hollister, CA, USA.
Reporting:
Reporting to the Senior Tomato Breeder based in France, the junior tomato breeder will be responsible for the tomato breeding program dedicated to Mexico.
Main Responsibilities:
Will be in charge of the Tomato breeding program dedicated to Mexico. Will assume this program mainly through our Mexican research station (near to Culiacan, Sinaloa state), and external trials, and with the support of our Californian research station.
Will assume and collaborate to upstream missions, such as long-term internal breeding projects and collaborative projects, literature survey, contacts with public research, development of tools for more efficient breeding.
Could participate to the international development of Vilmorin, through activities in other American countries.
Will work in deep collaboration with the Tomato breeding assistant and the research trial officer in Mexico. Will work in close link with the Senior Tomato breeder, with the Research managers in charge of Mexico and of US, and with the Marketing and Development teams.
Will interact with the other members of the tomato breeding team, especially the two other breeders located on America.
Will frequent travel to Culiacan, Mexico and to other states of Mexico, and from time to time in US and other countries.
Profile:
Master’s degree in Genetics and Plant Breeding (either from engineer school or from university)
Knowledge on tomato breeding or related crops will be a big plus
Strong communication, organizational, coordination and analytical skills
Ability to perform without close supervision, but under a team-effort environment (a self-starter)
Flexibility, pro-active and able to perform in a multicultural environment
Ability to work in distance and assume efficient reporting to France
Fluent English and Spanish. French would be a plus.
Location:
The position will be based in Hollister, California, USA with travel to Mexico and from time to time to other countries in American continent.
Others requirements:
The candidate should meet criteria of being a VIE (18 – 28 years old, nationals of European Union).
This is an entry-level position and would be ideal for recent college graduates or those with a first professional work experience.
Duration: 18 months
Expected starting date: October 1st 2015 in the U.S, with eventually the possibility to start in France before for a training period.
The VIE mission might be transferred to a permanent position after.
