Applied Research Associate

The Nursery Applied Research Associate supports the Nursery Applied Research Manager in the successful execution of trials directed towards alternative propagation methods, optimizing nursery efficiencies and improving plant and fruiting characteristics. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, assisting with nursery trial experimental design and protocol development for all four berry crops. The Nursery Applied Research Associate will exercise wide latitude and considerable independent judgment in the coordination and technical management of field research, including project implementation, monitoring, data collection, analysis and reporting and problem resolution.

Responsibilities
- Execute collaborative applied research projects across all four Driscoll’s berry crops. Plan, schedule, execute, evaluate, analyze, interpret and report results of applied research trials. Document procedures, results and report conclusions.
- Share relevant data with the appropriate groups both within Driscoll’s and external nursery growers. Assist with knowledge transfer and technical support for key nursery partners and customers.
- Work cross-functionally as needed to achieve Driscoll’s Mission. Partner with District Applied Research, Breeding, Global R&D and external nurseries to achieve mutual goals. Be a team player in furthering Driscoll’s Mission.
- Conduct all aspects of research trial execution throughout Northern and Southern California. Requires some overnight travel. • Ensures the safe keeping of propriety varieties and confidential information.
- Follows company policies and practices while representing Driscoll’s in an ethical and business - like manner in all interactions with employees, government agencies, growers, etc.
- Performs other duties and special projects as instructed by Manager.
Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science degree in Agronomy, Horticulture or related discipline with 0-3 years of relevant experience.
- Basic understanding of experimental design, data collection and analysis.
- Strong computer proficiency; particularly with Excel.
- Candidate must be disciplined, detail oriented and self-motivated.
- English fluency and literacy required with Spanish skills being an asset.
- Must be physically able to work in both field and greenhouse environments.
- California driver’s license and the ability to be covered under company-sponsored vehicle insurance program.
- A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally without restrictions.
