The Director is responsible for a broad array of management, organization and operational duties within the Field Seed Programs, the largest of its kind in the US. Major functions include directing field inspection and final seed certification processes, promotion of the certified seed industry, and design and development of new programs which keep pace with changes in the ag industry.
The Director manages full-time and temporary staff activity associated with all inspection, certification, regulatory and promotional components of the field seed programs. The Director is responsible for creating a long-range vision for the programs, and developing business opportunities which provide service for producers while generating revenue for the NDSSD. The Director participates with the Commissioner and program management team to ensure quality service and efficiency throughout the NDSSD.
Some state and national travel involved.
Minimum Qualifications:
- • Bachelor’s degree
- • Five years of work experience in seed production, seed quality assurance, ag research or plant sciences
- • Two years of management, administrative or supervisory work experience
Must have excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- • Master’s degree in agricultural, plant sciences or business related field
- • Work experience in program development and project management
- • Technical knowledge and work experience in seed certification and/or seed quality assurance programs
- • Work experience in commodity identity preservation programs
- • Work experience making presentations to groups
- • Work experience writing technical reports
- • Experience utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook
