Director of Seed Production & Processing
Location: Dixon, California, USA Job Status: Full- Time, Exempt
Summary:
Direct the activities of the Seed Production and Processing Departments ensuring consistent and on time delivery, quantity and quality of commercial and stock seed to fulfill the company sales and profitability goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for directing the activities for all aspects of Seed Production and Processing including but not limited to production planning, seed production, production research, crop estimates, production procedures, grower contracts, purity grow outs, seed quality, processing and conditioning.
- Implement and enhance our production research and database tools to improve our yield, quality and consistency of seed production.
- Develop and implement production and processing techniques to improve and accommodate delivery, consistency, quantity and quality.
- Ensure clear communication of Magnum’s production requirements to third party production companies. Critically evaluate third party Production Company’s performance in terms of yield, quality and on time delivery. Communicate and work with production companies to identify and improve upon production company weaknesses/shortcomings.
- Responsible for all Quality Assurance in production, processing, procedures, purity grow outs and inventory.
- Manage the sampling, testing and QA processes of seed coming from production
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally when needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team with research and sales to accomplish company objectives.
- Ability to manage and supervise employees in Production and seed processing to enhance their work performance.
Education/Experience:
Minimum of a Master of Science degree in agriculture or related field with 10 year experience in various seed industry positions of responsibility.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
- Self-starter or ability to use creative thinking and independent thinking to solve problems and implement solutions.
- Ability to network and coordinate activities to allow for smooth operations with minimal downtime and efficient use of people and resources.
- Skill at organizing and rationalizing procedures to maintain accuracy and integrity of seed through the various movements and steps of production, sampling, shipping enhancement, etc.
- Common sense and skill at monitoring inventory levels and production costs while maintaining high quality standards.
