This position would be located in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
Primary purpose of the Job would be to Support the development of hybrid vegetable crops with resistance to insect pests.
- Responsible for prioritization of insect pests for which resistance needs to be incorporated into vegetable hybrids.
- Create artificial insect resistance testing conditions and develop screening protocols.
- Assist the breeders and pathologists in selection and development of insect resistant lines.
Responsibilities
- Initiate, lead and execute research projects aimed at the development of hybrids towards resistance to insect pests.
- Strengthen the knowledge base of the group within the field of entomology.
- Pro-actively collaborate with the Nunhems pathologists worldwide, to set priorities.
- Actively network within the industry and academic world to keep track of the latest developments and initiate external collaborations where appropriate.
- Formulate, design and implement the crop specific insect resistance plan.
- Advise, propose and inform the R&D team(s) on insect resistance breeding projects.
- Maintenance and multiplication of insect cultures for screening & to develop efficient and new insect screening protocols.
- Diagnosis of insect pests and virus vectors of vegetable crops.
Educational Qualification
- Ph.D. in Agricultural Entomology
Skills and Experience Desired
- Proven record of experience (>5 years) with insect bioassay in vegetable crops.
- Knowledge of breeding and molecular biology is an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills required.
- Able to manage several projects at the same time.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Result oriented, cooperative and a good planner and organizer.
- Keeping track of planning and budget, able to keep overview and has a clear priority setting.
- Must be willing to travel.
