Associate Seed Agronomist
Location: Idaho Falls, Idaho, USA Cargill Specialty Seeds & Oils develops, produces and markets high-performance specialty oils. Our business is backed by an intellectual property position in the genetic engineering of canola and oil seeds. We develop proprietary planting seeds commercialize specialty oils to food industry.
The Associate Seed Agronomist position is responsible for overseeing all activities associated with the production of certified hybrid canola seed.
This position will work under the guidance of the Sr. Agronomist in the production of certified hybrid canola seed. Activities include, but are not limited to; field selection, contracting, field scouting and providing agronomic support to growers throughout the season.
Principal Accountabilities
- 40% - Coordinate field selection, assist in contracting with growers, and provide agronomic support to all aspects of hybrid canola seed production from planting through harvest.
- 40% - Scout hybrid production fields for weeds, insects, and disease as well as manage the quality assurance of seed in area of responsibility and maintain accurate field records.
- 15% - Assist Parent Seed as needed and work on various projects such as production research, small plot field trials, and Integrow agronomy support.
- 5% - Assist in the contra-season production of parent and certified hybrid canola seed in Chile.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor Degree in Agriculture or Related field
- Knowledge of hybrid seed or general seed production techniques, industry topics
- General knowledge of canola and other rotational crops produced in Eastern Idaho
- Ability to make timely decisions using good and sound judgment
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft software
- Travel required to support contra season production in Chile and Southern US
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs on an occasional basis
- Valid drivers license
Preferred
- Bachelors Degree in Agronomy
- Experience in certified hybrid canola seed production
- 3 years experience in production agriculture related field
- Two years experience in seed production, agronomy support, quality assurance, conditioning, treating and other day-to-day activities within a seed program.
- Knowledge of canola and hybrid seed production techniques
- Certified Crop Adviser certification
- Idaho Professional Applicator’s license
- Spanish speaking
