Manager, Seed Logistics

The primary responsibility of this role, as Manager Seed Logistics, is to manage seed inventory and logistics of regulated seeds for agricultural R&D biotech traits, including but not limited to soybean and corn. This role will support R&D seed production and trial activities in the US and counter-season locations, while ensuring compliance with all existing global regulatory requirements, stewardship, safety and biosafety standards.
The incumbent will:
- Manage seed inventory and logistics and work with the Trait Testing personnel to make sure all seeds are properly harvested, stored and inventoried;
- Develop and implement strict quality control standards for seed identity, seed quality and genetic purity;
- Create and maintain work instructions for all seed-related processes;
- Work with research program leaders, regulatory personnel and other competency groups to ensure the most efficient and accurate process for seed logistics;
- Adhere and enforce that all biosafety and stewardship requirements are met in the seed logistics process;
- Timely communicate all seed-related issues to related personnel through proper channels.
The selected candidate is required to possess the following:
- Bachelor of Science in biology, plant biology, agronomy, horticulture, or related field with 5 years of experience or Master degree in agronomy, horticulture, or related field with 3 years of experience;
- Knowledge of biosafety, stewardship and regulatory compliance in plant biotech industry;
- Prior experience in managing proper compliance, documentation and monitoring of regulated materials;
- Current knowledge of seed handling - optimal storage conditions, QC testing, logistics;
- Individual should have excellent organizational skills, interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work in a team environment;
- Possess the ability to articulate timely and clear communication on progress including technical hurdles;
- Proficient computer skills: MS Office, database management and email usage.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in domestic and international seed shipping. Familiar with USDA/APHIS permitting procedures for interstate movement of plant material;
- Experience in working with people in different functions;
- Familiar with database use and development;
- Prior experience with soy and corn seeds;
- Experience in managing a team and personnel involved in seed logistics.
Salary and grade level will be commensurate with experience and/or education level.
