Research Farm Manager
Location: Woodland, California, USA Responsibilities:
- This position is responsible for managing a 40 acre tomato research farm. The person is responsible for all aspects of organizing the fertility, tillage, planting, weed control, general farm maintenance & harvest of research plots for seed saving and lab analysis. The person is also responsible for equipment maintenance in cooperation with the tomato breeder. In addition this position will be responsible to plant various research plots with growers.
- Manage fertility & irrigation for tomato production both in the nursery and the field.
- Organize planting on the farm and plant outside research plots.
- Supervise tomato seed extraction.
- Calibrate sprayer and co-ordinate all pesticide applications of tomato plots.
- Maintain station research equipment
- Organize & hire seasonal labor as needed.
- Reports to processing tomato breeder.
Qualifications:
- Candidate should have a B.S. in Agronomy or Agricultural research with some experience in conducting plot trials. Person must have good mechanical knowledge, excellent planning and organization skills; strong communication skills required, working knowledge of MS Office and common PC based software as well as some knowledge of Spanish.
- Must have valid California driver’s license.
- A current California pesticide applicator’s license.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work all hours to get the job done.
- Ability to lift at least 50lbs.
