Variety Development Manager

Location: Flexible within north or south of Europe

Driscoll’s of Europe, Middle East and Africa, a leading company for breeding, production, sales and marketing of berries, has two openings for Variety Development Managers in Northern and Southern Europe. The positions are responsible for planning, executing, and evaluating raspberry, blackberry, and blueberry variety trials, but also working with growers and agronomists to support variety development.

Job responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the principle breeders in the U.S. for variety evaluation in Driscoll’s research sites in Northern and Southern Europe
  • Set up variety evaluation trials in coordination with the testplot managers
  • Support testplot managers for best practices in the trials
  • Coordinate with agronomists and applied research managers to optimize initial variety development and fill the needs of the several growing regions, aligning with growers
  • Collect, interpret and report selection performance in all breeding research sites
  • Coordinate with Marketing and sales for initial variety development
  • Participate and support, as necessary, field days, growers visits and other technical events
  • Create variety Fact Sheets to communicate new variety characteristics
  • Propose and present information to a multidisciplinary group responsible for variety advancement

Primary location: Flexible within Northern or Southern Europe regions

This position requires university level studies in agricultural/horticultural or plant sciences preferably with a master level or higher. Experience working with horticultural crops is desirable. Applicants must have written and oral fluency in English; language skills in other European languages is highly desirable. The candidate must possess a working knowledge in Microsoft Office software: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Applicants must demonstrate a professional and flexible attitude with enthusiasm. The ability to multitask and work as part of a multicultural team is essential. He or she will need to have a proactive approach with the ability to communicate on all levels, transmitting information to different audiences and serving distinct purposes.

This position does require the post holder to regularly travel within Europe and worldwide.
