Production Research Associate – Req #: 00ET7
Monsanto Company is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Production Research Associate. This role has the responsibility for managing and implementing specific projects within the Production Research Team focused on corn and soybeans. This individual may also oversee all seasonal workers and interns working for Production Research at the site. In this position the successful candidate will actively support planting, harvesting, agronomic management, field parent test data collection, and research data sampling. The Production Research Associate position demands independent thinking, time management, and the self motivation to implement research and parent testing efforts. In partnership with and reporting to the Production Research Scientist at the site, the Associate will be responsible for conducting research in an effort to reduce production costs, improve seed quality and advance supply reliability for North American Seed Manufacturing. This position will also actively participate in Monsanto’s world class safety program.
Key Business Accountabilities:
- Regulated trials testing efficacy and yield of advanced Biotech Traits
- Flowering notes on inbred lines to provided accurate planting instructions
- Emergence trials, comparing the emergence/vigor of our lines to ensure that we have the highest quality seed in the industry
- Herbicide tolerance on inbred and hybrid lines, evaluating different classes of herbicides on new varieties to understand tolerance and sensitivity
- Six Sigma and Lean projects to improve product quality and process efficiency
Core Business/Functional Skills and Education:
- BS in Agricultural field plus 1 year of field work experience in row crops; MS in Agricultural related field is desired
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
- Strong communication skills
- Prior experience with the operation and maintenance of research plot equipment [ex. tractor, planter, sprayer, combine]
- Ability to work outdoors in corn and soybean fields during all seasons of the year
- Ability to acquire pesticide applicators license
- Ability to travel approximately 5-10%
- May be required to push, lift or pull up to 70 lbs
- Proficient with field trial management software, is desired
- Experience using statistical software such as JMP or SAS and in experimental design and field test plot management, is desired
