Technical Crop Production Specialist

Location: Seymour, Illinois, USA

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The overall goal of this position is to provide technical leadership on the whole BASF portfolio to all internal and external customers. This position will incorporate BASF products and research into a multi-disciplinary focus on crop yield improvement systems (including all aspects of crop production from fertility to crop protection). The position requires strong communication skills and the ability to summarize and present data and positions in a clear, concise manner. The location of this position will be at the BASF research facility at Seymour, Illinois.

The Technical Crop Production Specialist position will oversee market development trials (both direct and GIA driven) to focus on program development of high yield production systems for corn and soybean. Dissemination of trial results will be conducted in various forums, from field tours (hands on training), direct presentations (classroom training), and the creation of technical sales support information.

This position will also provide key technical information exchanges with COI’s in the agricultural arena including (including Distribution, seed Companies, and Universities). Accountability for the income objectives of the crop groups are shared by the technical market manager. Support of the sales organization to achieve income objectives occurs primarily via interaction with resourcing of the technical service representatives.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  1. Coordinate market development protocols that produce data supporting high-yield production systems and incorporation of BASF products/portfolios.
  2. Provide technical training and direction to Technical Service Representatives using a variety of presentation and persuasion tools.
  3. Take the lead in Business to business technical interactions with Marketing, Sales, Innovation Specialists, Biology, Regulatory, channel partners and KIPs
  4. Assist with and coordinate on-farm research targets with Innovation Specialists, Technical Service, and Sales to promote High Yield production systems.
  5. Work to incorporate other BASF projects into the high yield systems as they become available.
  6. Develop plots at key research locations to provide internal training to new BASF employees as well as to train external customers as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

REQUIRED:

  • MS/PhD degree in plant science, agronomy, entomology, plant pathology or related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years post MS experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of crop production
  • Demonstrated ability to recommend product positioning based on evaluating data and customer needs.
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in various software programs, including Powerpoint, Excel and Word.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with audiences of varying backgrounds.

PREFERRED:

  • Agribusiness related experience
  • Experience in working with growers, Distribution/Retail, Universities, consultants and/or seed companies
  • Understanding of Distribution/Retail and grower needs
